Formula and method

Percentage commission per sale = order value × commission % ÷ 100. Fixed commission per sale = fixed payment. Total commission = conversions × commission per sale. Merchant revenue = conversions × order value. Effective rate = commission per sale ÷ order value × 100.

Worked example

For 15 sales averaging £100 at 10% commission, each sale earns £10, merchant revenue is £1,500 and total commission is £150. A fixed £12 per sale instead earns £180, equivalent to 12% of that order value.

How to interpret your results

Commission per sale describes the payment structure; earnings per conversion divides the resulting total by your supplied sales count. With zero sales, the first can be known while the second is undefined.

Assumptions and edge cases

Each eligible conversion has the same payment. Order value is required for percentage commission; with fixed commission it is optional and enables merchant revenue and effective-rate calculations. Refunds, tiers and recurring payments are excluded.

Frequently asked questions

Why can effective commission be above 100%?

A fixed acquisition payment can exceed the first order value. This mathematical ratio does not assess programme sustainability or future customer revenue.
